Writer's Workshop: Coming Out Of The Closet

Writer's Workshop with Mama Kat
Describe your latest obsession
I'm about to show you something REALLY scary, people. I am only showing you this because it is my only current obsession, and none of the other prompts were working for me! So, are you ready? Just remember... I warned you.

You're thinking, "Awesome, Lacey. Your latest obsession is a pile of crap?"
Uhmmm... NO. Well, Kind of. This is actually my closet.(If you're wondering where all of my clothes are... they're in my other closet. 2 closets=Lucky, I know!)

These pictures were taken a while back and I'm ashamed to say it looks way worse now. Anyway, it's driving me insane! That computer has a virus and I don't use it anymore, I just need to get some pictures off of it before I get rid of it. This closet stores my shoes, purses, jewelry(it's all hanging on that cork board on the back wall), fabric and was once my office. That last picture is the first thing I see when I wake up... ICK. So each day I start out thinking of how to organize everything to fit in there and have it function as I wish. Do you all have any great organizing and storage tips for me? Remember, the desk top computer will no longer be in the picture! He's a goner. I think my biggest concern is organizing and storing my fabric better. Right now it is stacked in a corner and I also have some in a hanging sweater bag.(It seemed like a good idea, but I have too much fabric and it's too heavy for the bag!)
I've got to get this taken care of! It's weighing on me!
(I'm sorry this is such a boring post, but I really need ideas and help!)

& Holy Cow... did you hear the fantastic news? Nie is taking over her blog again on January 16th! I'm pretty sure The Nie Nie Dialogues will become an obsession again, which is why I mention it! I need some new Nie in my life! I've read all her old posts multiple times, and am so ready! I'm just so glad she's home and able to see her children and Mr. Nielsen again! God is pretty great...

20 love notes:

  1. Those cheap clear plastic drawer thingies (I am just so descriptive) that you get at WalMart/Target are great. And if you don't want anyone to see that you have just thrown piles of stuff if in there (not that I do that), cut a piece of scrapbook paper and put in the front.
Then it covers the mess AND matches your room when the closet door is open.
Walmart/Target has lots of closet organizing options.
I am struggle with the fabric thing all the time as well. I feel like I am constantly re-organizing it, so if you come up with a solution let me know!

  4. Visiting from Mama Kat's...

Oooooohhhh. I wish I could come over and work with you on this. I love this type of project! Hard to do from just the photos though. I'm sure you can get some really great storage things that look pretty and are functional. I wish this was my problem -- what a fun project. (I'm sure all the organization freaks like myself will drool over this post!)

  7. Every day I look around thinking of things to organize and how I'd like to organize them. But alas, I'm far too lazy to actually do it. So I just clean the clutter up and throw it away. Sigh, I'm sure I'm throwing away something important.

  11. Lace!

  12. Oh wow that is intense...
step 1: Declutter. Toss anything you can bring yourself to toss. It helps if you invite a reallt judgmental friend over for this part, to give you the evil eye while you meekly attempt to explain why you need some random piece of crap.
step 2: The plastic bins mentioned above. These are a must. If you have anything heavy that needs to be stored, invest in the heavy duty bins so they don't start to sag. Get a bunch of different ones and stack them... large, multi-drawer ones on wheels with smaller ones stacked on top. I'm a scrapbooking freak living in a TINY apartment and I swear by them... I also save small tins and boxes and store small stuff in those WITHIN the larger bins.
step 3: Shoe racks. I'm thinking you could get one or two of those hanging ones and push it off to the side of the hanging rod.

    Good luck!

  13. Wow. You should call that show in TLC that comes in and fixes this issue for you. Just think you could get your closet organized and plug your sewing stuff. it's a 2 for 1. look into that. :)

  14. Don't pay any attention to the desire for neatness. When the time is right, it will happen. Until then, could you pass me the blindfold - I need to pass and keep getting distracted by the mess. {*grin*}

  15. I think Kimmers has it right... and least until the TV folks come calling. Boxes... lots of boxes. Then, when you don't open the boxes for six months, you give them away. Good luck.

  16. I say...pull it all out and start fresh!! Get rid of anything you don't LOVE and buy some fun bins for storing everything...just make sure they are clear so you can see into them! :)

  18. I, too, am organizationally impaired. My mess is far worse. I would be too embarrassed to take photos, let alone show them to anyone. That thing you call junk will end up in one of my works of art someday.

Hey, I'm an artist, I'm supposed to be eccentric.

My best household tip: Use low-wattage light bulbs and invite guests only at night.

  19. Oh wow, I didn't realize Nie was better! I'm going to check that out and I'm going to run far far away from your cluttery mess...I've got enough of my own to worry about. ;)

  20. I've been reading Nie for a few years now and actually cried when I read the good news. I found her sister's blog through hers, and she's an incredibly talented writer. I can't wait for January 16th!
