All By Myself

On Wednesday, MR text me mid-day to ask, "Do we have plans Friday?"
I quickly responded with "No. Why?"
Did he make plans for us?  Did friends ask us to do something?  I waited for his answer...
"Phil & Kevin want to go see a movie."
It is very rare that MR and I spend our nights apart and while most times that we make separate plans, my first thought is "I am going to miss him."... this time was different.
A wash of giddy came over me.  No, I wasn't daydreaming of a girls night or an evening of taking my sweet time shopping.
I was genuinely excited at the thought of having a night of absolutely nothing to do & no one to do it with.
Oftentimes I think we forget that the most important relationship one can have, after your relationship with God(whatever God that may be for you), is the relationship with oneself.
It took me a very long time to learn that.  It is one of the most important things I have ever learned, actually.
EVER.
 Have yourself a little party.

Learn that there is a difference between alone and lonely.
Make time for your favorite jammies.

So when five oclock rolls around, I will change into my yoga pants & a tank.
I will order out.
I will watch a chick flick.
I will paint my nails.  Or craft.  Or read. Or have a Lacey only dance party.
I will enjoy myself.
When's the last time you carved out an evening just for you?
Make a date with yourself soon, okay?
You will thank me.
I promise.

13 love notes:

  1. I could not agree more! I recently learned how to have a better relationship with myself and love myself. I took me way to long to realize my happiness is in my hands and not the hands of others! Enjoy your evening :)

  2. I've had those nights the past four nights, and I've loved having them. Sure, we miss our loves and our friends, but I know I definitely need that time to myself to recharge. Enjoy your Lacey night!

  8. WOW....it's been years. Considering I am a mom and my daughter is a "mama's girl", those days are rare and few.

  9. very nice, very nice. I need to work on the opposite; arriving at a place where I can share my time with somebody because I guard my alone time so much!

  10. It has been far too long, friend. But, I did get lost in a book, if only for awhile, this weekend. And it was delightful.
