Mardi Gras is really one of the best times of year in Louisiana. We celebrate from Kings Day(or Twelfth Night... the 12th night after Christmas) to Fat Tuesday. Here is how MR and I spent our Mardi Gras day this year!
What can I say? I feel at home surrounded by a bunch a crazy people.
Instead of braving the crowds on the parade routes, we decided to brave the crowds in the French Quarter.
There are organized and unorganized groups of Revelers who parade through the streets of the French Quarter on foot dressed in costumes of all sorts. Here is a sample of some of the sights we took in...
But my favorite costume of the day goes to this fella...
Pink wig and tutu, black lace and booby tassels. He was so sweet and precious!
Our piggies among the party mess
Mr. looking like Walter from The Big Lebowski in the French Market.
After Mr. tried on a few funny pairs of glasses, he bought me these sweet green rimmed aviators. Thanks babe! My eyes thank you as well.
Bourbon Street craziness.
And here are a few photos of how the surroundings differ when we parade in our City(just outside of New Orleans)...
Kiddos! Kiddos! Kiddos! This is the kind of photo you get when you try to get a picture with 3 babes under the age of four who are hyped up on King cake.
My handsome guy and our little Alli girl! She is Mr's youngest niece.
My oldest niece and I! For those of you who have been with me for a while... this is DOLL FACE! Can you believe how big my girl has gotten? Ugh.. me neither :(
And that's that! It was a fantastic Mardi Gras!
Come on down and join the fun next year, wontcha?

How fun that must have been! I have to admit, I'm pretty jealous. Maybe someday I'll make it to Mardi Gras... Cute green aviators! I think MR should have gotten the orange aviators for himself though. Pretty legit if you ask me. ;) Haha! Glad to see you two (and the kiddos) had fun!
ReplyDeleteAwe Lacey - Looks like you had a great time! I recognize the places in your pictures, NOLA is such an interesting city :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband's *entire* family is from NOLA. I went for the first time in 2005 (before the storm) and fell in love with it. I'm planning a whole blog post about Mardi Gras 2012 geared toward people who have never been before. We try to make it out to NOLA every few months to see friends and family. We definitely go every year for Mardi Gras though because my husband and father-in-law ride in the Bacchus parade :)
