Birthday re-cap
For my birthday this year, all of my girlfriends and their fellas gathered to celebrate at Capdeville in New Orleans. It's a sweet little hidden gem! Surprisingly, this was my first time there! So much for being hip and in the "know"... I'm old and in the bed by 10 instead. ;)
Describing the atmosphere is a little difficult... I keep contradicting myself with descriptive words.
It's a little retro... but also modern. It's sort of posh... but totally laid back. It's the perfect place to whisper in your fellas ear... or scream at your friend across the table. See? You're just going to have to take my word for it that it's worth giving a go if you're ever in my neck of the woods!
Capdeville serves comfort food but they put a swanky little twist on it & I for one, am all for it!
I ordered the white truffle mac-n-cheese(which didn't disappoint!) and MR ordered a Capdeville burger that he was completely pleased with. Oh, and we split an order of Chorizo & Manchego fries. It didn't suck.
My friends and I were tucked into a cozy alcove with the walls covered in 80's albums, where we ate, drank & shared details of our lives as of recent. It was a perfect evening. My girlfriends all got me perfect gifts, some of which included bare minerals make up, an amazing blending brush from sephora, philosophy bath goodies, a leopard clutch, a scarf, an anthro gift card & also, my bestie asked if I would so kindly stand as her maid of honor in her upcoming wedding!
I went home and snuggled up next to my MR and felt like one lucky lady!

Oh, Chicago.
A few weeks ago, MR & I went back to Chicago for his cousin's wedding. This was my second time there and there wasn't as much urgency to do the Chicago tourist thing, so we just kind of let the wind take us where it wanted and had a grand ol' time!

Fun fact: I used to collect water globes when I was a kiddo! My heart still pitter patters for them, from pure nostalgia. As I grew older I realized collections have to end somewhere because eventually it becomes hoarding & woof, I'm not down with that. I only believe in collecting love now :)
Classic cheesy diner pic! Sharing a coke at a greek diner we stumbled upon at lunch time one afternoon.

MR gets totally badass in a wall of fog at The Museum of Science and Industry

We came upon this old storefront in Lincoln Park when hunting down a burger joint we saw on Travel Channel last year. [I'll detail that in another post!] I loved the vintage signage!

And, of course, our reason for visiting Chicago! MR's seriously adorable cousin got hitched!
I loved that she kept her natural curls for her big day!
Unfortunately on our last day there, MR caught the stomach bug and was down for the count, so I played lots of solitaire while my sicky-poo slept. Poor guy! Besides that little hickup, the trip was great! It was fun to see Chicago in the Summer since we were their for the Fall last time. Next time we'd like to go for winter! We'll see if our southern blood can handle it ;)

Call him Mr. Brad Paisley, Mmmkay?
My best friend/roommate, Meghan and I once took the same 3 hour biology course in college. We figured it would be great to be able to study together, take turns taking notes, ride together ahem take turns going to the class... you know- all the perks. So when the first day rolled around, we hopped in one car, drove the few minutes to campus and when we walked into our lecture hall, who did we see standing in front of the class?

Yep, Brad Paisley.
Okay... so, maybe he wasn't really Brad Paisley, but I couldn't tell you the guys name because from that moment on we called him "Mr. Brad Paisley". He came complete with the country accent and all.
Unlike Brad Paisley, and very much like Mr. Mackey from Southpark,
Mr. Brad Paisley's favorite word to use was "Mmmkay?"
He said it after everything.
On the ride home Meghan and I would mimic Mr. Brad Paisley by singing lyrics from Brad Paisley songs and then adding "mmmkay?" to the ends.
"I hope I'm at least half the dad that he didn't have to be, Mmmkay?"
or "We danced out there on that empty hard wood floor, Mmmkay?"
Something we found hilarious at the time.

One fateful evening in Biology, when discussing the ever so entertaining and always intriguing golgi bodies,
it happened... Meghan cracked!(I knew it was only a matter of time!)
Mr. Brad Paisley points to a picture on the projection screen and says
"Golgi bodies process proteins and work to move them outside of the cell, MMMMKAY?"
And then a voice comes from the seat next to me, nestled in the very back row of the hall.
Without looking up from her notes, Meghan says loud and proud, as though we were by ourselves in the car,
"Mmmkay???"
Every person in the class then turns to stare at the two of us sitting alone in the back row & passed all of their heads I can see Mr. Brad Paisley staring back as well.
Clearly, all I could do at this point was laugh my booty off. I started laughing so hard that I had to shove my sweater in my mouth and put my head down on my desk to hide the tears that were rolling down my face.
I couldn't compose myself the rest of the class. People kept turning around looking slightly amused and a little annoyed, so when we took a break I just decided it was best to leave.
I still can't hear Brad Paisley on the radio or see him on tv without thinking about that night and laughing...
mmmkay? ;)

Polish & Drops and Ugly Kids- Oh My!
I paint my nails pretty often. It's rare that you will catch me with bare nails! I think the reason I paint them so often is because my polish always chips so fast. Yes, even when I take all the precautionary steps like filing, smoothing, buffing, base coat, 2 color coats and a top coat.... just like at the salon.
Well, recently I found the single greatest top coat EVER that allowed me to wear the same polish CHIP FREE for five whole days. Not one touch up took place during those five days! MR had to hear me marvel about this for days on end, God bless him, so I thought to get out my "Can you believe how great this stuff is?" feelings(and save him from further polish talk), I would share it with y'all :)
It's called "3 Minute Artificials" by Nail-Aid. It's fantastic!

[this guy has nothing to do with the product, I just like him]
The only problem is I can't seem to find this stuff anywhere online, which leads me to believe they are no longer making it. I scooped mine up at Ross, so I should have known. Womp, womp, womp. Anyway, if you have a Ross near you, check out their beauty section to see if you can score yourself some. Totally worth making the trip for!
Speaking of nails, when I was at the spa a while back getting my nails done, the manicurist used drying drops & within a minute, Bazinga! My nails were dry! Maybe I'm old school, but I'd never seen such a thing! Aerosol sprays, neon lights & good old fashioned lung air were all I knew of!
[besides dipping your wet fingernails in ice water, which actually does work, but it's just a bit of a pain]
So, do any of you modern gals use drying drops? Are the ones on store shelves worth the price?
And in completely unrelated news,
I came up with another karmic reason I might have ugly kids:
I refer to Gabriella of the Jersey Giudice clan as "The cute one".
I mean... really though? That kid looks nothing like anyone in the family.
Must be some cute mail men in those fancy Jersey hoods.

Free Birthday Swag
My birthday is rapidly approaching. On August 19th, I will be 21... (cough cough +6.) While getting older hasn't been all that big of a hoot since I hit my early twenties, I do quite enjoy the perks stores and restaurants give you for your birthday! I like free, don't you? Here are some places that give you free swag that I've come across:
Sephora sends you a coupon for a birthday gift when you sign up for their Beauty Insider club
(no purchase necessary in store, with purchase online)
This years gift is a 6oz bottle of Happy Birthday, Beautiful! shampoo/bubble bath/body wash
Baskin Robbins sends you a coupon for free ice cream 5 days before your birthday if you sign up for their Birthday club!

I will just have to make a decision between mint chocolate chip & praline pecan!
If you sign up for Aveda's B-day program, you will receive a coupon for a free gift valued up to $24
Yay for free products!
But wait, I just learned about a company that offers a free beauty service on your birthday! Sweet!
Benefit is offering anyone who shows a valid ID on their birthday a free brow consultation and grooming!
Just look for the pink Benefit counter in your local makeup counter filled department store.
Ya' think I can manage to hit all of these places on my birthday? haha :)

You want free sponsorship?
Hey Y'all! I've been busy creating new cute items for my shop and now it's time to start thinking about advertising. Of course, one of the first places I always look to advertise is blogs. Sometimes another entrepreneur and I will swap buttons, sometimes I pay for a sponsor spot, sometimes I get lucky and sweet people just want to plaster my button up because they like me.{You're sweet... I like you too!}
But today, I'm looking to do something a little different! YOU write a quick post about my sweet little shop & I SPONSOR YOUR BLOG for a month! All you need to include is pictures of your 3 favorite items from my shop & my button!
Once your post is complete, come back and comment here, leaving a link to the post and I will grab your button from your page & add you to my sponsor block!
[if you don't have a button, I will make you a basic button!]
Grab my button here:
Take your pick!
Thank you everyone for your amazing support! You are some of my best customers!!
